Additional Information about the Junior League:
Match preparation
- Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled match time.
- Make sure to bring something to drink, a towel, a hat, maybe sunglasses on sunny days, a good spirit.
- Please don’t walk in on the court if other people are playing on it until it’s time.
- Do a hitting warm up for max 10 minutes before you start the match.
Scoring
- The first two sets are played with regular scoring and a tie-breaker at 6-6 (first to 7 points, win by two points). Whoever starts to serve in the tie-breaker serves one point, then the other player serves two point, from there you serve two points each until the tie-breaker is finished.
- Switch side every 6 points.
- The third set is a 10 point tie-breaker, first to 10 win by two points.
- The server should announce the score after each point. I can’t stress this enough because almost every match that I have watched have messed up and played the wrong score at one point or another. So please, say the score out loud before you start the next point. Remember to announce the servers score first.
- Please use the score keepers on the outside courts so you don’t lose track of the game count.
Balls - If you don’t have any balls then we will supply them at the front desk at Red’s for free. We will have slightly used balls for you to use for league play. Please return them in the ball hole located on the right side of the vending machines outside or bring them back to the front desk.
Reporting Scores – Please make sure to report the score as soon as possible after the match is finished. You report them at the front desk. Make sure the scores are reported correctly.
Changing a scheduled match – If you for some reason cannot play on the scheduled day and time
then you can contact your opponent and reschedule for another day and time. Make sure to call Red’s and release the court you were supposed to play on and then reserve another court for the new day and time that you and your opponent agrees upon. Make sure to reserve the court for 2 hrs since the match can last that long or longer sometimes. Let them know that you are playing a Junior League Match when reserving the court. Please be aware that you probably can’t get a court between 9 am - 11 am and 6 pm - 8 pm Monday thru Thursday because of other adult league matches being played. Also, be aware that if you reserve an indoor court you will be charged a court fee at your own expense. Please try to play the match before the next round starts.
For contact info please see the player contact info list.
Some match observations I encountered during the spring league
Make sure to make the line calls promptly. You can’t return a serve and play another shot and then call out the serve. If no call is made that means the ball is good. As a rule you can say that if your opponent returns the ball then it’s too late to call it out.
If the ball touches the line even the slightest it’s considered good. The whole ball must be outside the line in order for you to make an out call.
Good Luck!
